Need motivation? Have doubts about Tai Chi? Check out this video! It’s a news clip reporting on Chen Xiao Wang, and how the Tae Kwan Do School was trying to challenge him. It’s reported in Mandarin but I’m sure the demonstration will speak for itself..
I’ve met him once in Bristol, UK. I flew down from Scotland just to see with my own eyes why he’s so highly regarded. As I was the only Mandarin speaking person there, he gave me a bit more instruction. Actually, i got much more than an instruction - he corrected my posture.
I was actually devastated after he corrected my posture. My legs were aching like they’ve never been before. I was sweating like a pig in spring time! And more importantly, I’ve realised all that I have learnt has not even scraped the surface of the real Tai Chi! After investing years of training, it was disappointing to find that out, to say the least!
On hindsight, I was really lucky to have met him. It was a turning point for me. It opened my eyes to what Tai Chi really is and can do. Knowing the theory is only part of the understanding. To fully understand tai chi, you have to know it through and through, from balls to bones (to borrow a phrase from the Matrix).
Watching a video of him does give me a lot of motivation to train up again. To aspire to get the real deal. Hopefully, the clip can do the same for you too!
I clicked on the video and it says its a private video and you have to be invited first to see it. can you make it public?
Robi
Hi robi, the video was public when I saw it. I’ve just found out about this. i tried searching for it in youtube but couldn’t find it! It’s not my video, so i don’t have the authority to make it private or public. maybe other people who reads this might know?
Ok Shang. Can you at least tell us the highlights of the video
Hohoho! Well.. as i remember it, the teacher of the taekwando class tried toppling CXW, but with no effect. CXW was holding a cup of tea in his hand and drinking it! After a while, I think he got bored and mildly twist and the teacher landed on the floor.
Next, the teacher gathered his whole class to push him. They did a “rehearsal” first by standing in line to push a high platform about chest height. It was a stage of some sort. After the practice, they formed a line to push CXW. He wasn’t moving at all! The students eventually implode under their strength, landing over one another while CXW watched, bemused.
end of clip.
