Listening in Tai Chi by 解守德

For some extraordinary Tai Ji listening skills, check out 解守德’s performance below where he”strike” someone through someone else. He managed to listen to both the person’s force and redirect it out so brilliantly to just the guy behind. Enjoy!

hi shang, the guy you see in the clip is xie shoude. he teaches internal arts in sydney. xie is a one of two persons authorized by the late tian hui to teach yin yang baguazhang. he also became a disciple of my taiji grandteacher, wei shuren. a few years back xie was kicked out of our lineage for certain reasons. this is why if you look at GM Wei’s book and compare it to xie’s you see many similar principes except xie does not mention its source nor did xie put in a picture of GM Wei in his book. in the DVD that came with xie’s book, he showed a lot of our taiji stuff but he mixed it with some of the other yang and chen taiji that he learned as well as baguazhang. if you look at the other clips posted by googlebly there is one of xie doing parts of a form. one of the movements showed is single whip and xie does it with a bit of chen taiji flavor because the way we do it is not so exaggerated. nowadays i hear that xie is spreading his wings to hong kong. he still teaches in sydney but many people are more aware of his “character” nowadays and shy away from him – a pity considering that he is talented and has certain skills. i heard that when he first taught he invited people to come test his baguazhang and a number of people did and these tests and challenges garnered him quite a lot of seasoned martial artists as students.

I don’t know much (or care) about whether his brand of Taiji & Baguazhang is “politically correct”, where he came from.
But he was a good teacher to me (Baguazhang) and others, and managed to pass on some of these skills to us.
IMHO, that’s all that matters for a student.

    ZMS:

    1) is it correct to assume Xie’s Taiji content was learn from Wei? does everyone in the world with the similar taiji contect has to be learnt from Wei?

    2) as an outsider we never know what happen between two people. So please dont make accusation when you know what have happened.

3)I totally agree with Laney. When I seek a teacher all I care is whether he has skill and he know how to teach. not the brand

” . . . if you look at GM Wei’s book and compare it to xie’s you see many similar principles except xie does not mention its source . . .”

ZMS, you’ve never told us who your teacher was/is that links you to GM Wei. So you make lots of statements about “GM Wei this” and “GM Wei that”–but how do we know that you’ve studied the authentic teaching of Wang Yongquan passed down through Wei Shuren? You have even less documented credentials than Xie Shoude whom you criticize here.

ZMS: According to your information, Xie only learned for a few months and practiced for some 10 years to attend this stage.
How about your teacher. How long he has been learning from GM and how long he has practiced. Pls show us some clips of his great tai chi skill.
