When it comes to money, the holy grail of all questions is always “how to make more money”. I believe this is only part of the equation of making money. We also have to know how to spend the money so that we will end up having more money to make more money. I believe this is what I mean when I say:
Think BIG, drive small
To make more money, you’ve got to think BIG. All money generating ideas start off with a thought. You can stumble upon the biggest opportunity in life but if you didn’t think about it, the opportunity will just float by right in front of your eyes. You are not suppose to just to think about it, but you have to think about it in the biggest way you can. You’ve got to convince yourself that you are actually capable of making a large sum of money (of course, size is relative). Without this BIG thought, you will always be doubting yourself, second guessing yourself, and hence convincing yourself that you’re actually “not worth it”.
After having this BIG thought in you, of course you will need to take action to translate the BIG thought into positive actions that will achieve your BIG thought. In the midst of this “road to success”, or even after you have reached the pinnacle of your riches, please remember to drive small.
You don’t need the largest, longest, most advanced car in the world. Your largest car will be limited by the car parking lots that you must park to get into that shopping centre. Your longest car will make parallel parking a nightmare. And your most advanced car will probably spend more time with the engineers who designed it than you.
Similarly, this can be applied to all possessions that you can think of. There’s only one of you, you don’t need that many clothes, shoes, socks, watches etc. You only have a pair of eyes, you don’t need to occupy them all the time. Forget having more than 1 ipod, a nintendo DS, a PSP, a few TVs, 2 set-top boxes (so that you don’t have to fight for channels)…
Of course, you can’t always have enough books.
That’s my soft spot.
