Tai Ji quickies

Ever since I started the 20 minutes routine (see my 2009 new year resolution), most days consist of only doing the stipulated 20 minutes. It seems I have created an artificial ceiling on my training time. However, I have to keep reminding myself that this ceiling is only temporary, and it’s meant to be a floor so that I will always train beyond 20 minutes. If I can keep up a 20 minutes routine everyday, it’ll be quite an achievement for me on its own.

    You’re doing great. Just look at your training as a way of feeling good. If you beat yourself up for doing only 20 minutes you condition yourself to feel bad while you’re doing tai chi and you’ll slow stop doing it all together.

    Find a way to look forward to that 20 minutes. If you catch yourself feeling bad when you think about tai chi, think about the parts you like (especially during practice). This way you’ll condition yourself to look forward to practice time; feel good before, during and after practice; you’ll find you unconsciously set aside at least that much time; and you’ll also unconsciously start looking for ways to ’sneak in’ a little extra time.

    Keep up the good work, and by all means enjoy yourself. It’s why we’re alive to begin with. ;-) >

    I’ve followed your lead. I always to a few of the 24 Forms (Wu family style neigung) religiously. It adds up.
